The Lightweight E-Type, essentially a racing version of the E-Type, was introduced in 1963 as a follow-up to the D-Type. These made use of extensive amounts of aluminum and were fitted with a tuned version of the 3.8L XK inline-6, fitted with an aluminum engine block, mated to either a 4- or 5-speed ZF manual; this engine produced about 300 horsepower. These cars were raced; although they did not see major success the cars saw success at smaller races and in private hands. Twelve chassis were produced, as well as six "continuation" cars produced since 2014; today, the Lightweight E-Type is one of the rarest and most desirable versions of the E-Type.
